Austria's Sebastian Kurz quits politics, Chancellor Schallenberg offers to resign – The Washington Post

Within hours, his successor, Alexander Schallenberg, offered to resign, too. Schallenberg had been the foreign minister under Kurz and in October was sworn in to preserve the coalition government. Critics of Kurz’s conservative ÖVP party presumed that he was still pulling the strings behind the scenes. The party is expected to select a new leader who could also serve as chancellor.
