'16 Shots' documentary review: On Chicago's mean streets, who controls the narrative?

By February 10, 2020 Entertainment News

Tuesday night at the University of Chicago’s Logan Center for the Arts in Hyde Park, writer-director Richard Rowley’s documentary will be presented in a free public screening followed by a panel including Chicago-based journalist Jamie Kalven. Kalven’s 2015 Slate investigative feature, also titled “Sixteen Shots,” successfully countered the official story that 17-year-old McDonald, shot 16 times by Van Dyke, posed an immediate and grave threat to officers the night he died, shortly before 10 p.m., Oct. 20, 2014, between 40th and 41st on Pulaski Road in the Archer Heights neighborhood.
